The year 2025 has just started, which means at the time of writing, the Nintendo Switch 2 is still in the land of rumors. Nintendo, however, promised to show the “successor” to Nintendo Switch, as they call it, in their current fiscal year, which ends at the end of March 2025.
Like many Nintendo Switch fans, the SwitchBuddy team cannot wait for the new console. In the meantime, we wanted to share some thoughts and “plans” regarding the app and the new console.
Obviously, SwitchBuddy will “support” the new Switch 2, although without knowing about the console, it is hard to say what that will look like. At minimum, the game's details will list compatibility with all the Switch systems so you can easily see if the game is available for your system. We expect the Switch 2 to be backward compatible with games from the previous generation, so this information will probably be mostly about Switch 2 exclusive games.
We have no idea how the screenshot transfer will work on the new console. It would be great for the app if the transfer stayed the same. It would be even better if Nintendo improved upon it to perhaps remove the one video or ten screenshots limit for a single go.
We also have some ideas leading up to the launch. We'll keep them secret for now.
